A Few Days in Shanghai

Spandes at a pedestrian mall in downtown Shanghai

We started our R&R from Cambodia with a stop in Shanghai. My Oxford friend, Josefine, is posted there as a German diplomat. We had a great time visiting her in Prague when she lived there, but that had been so long ago (seven years!) that since the last time we had seen her she acquired a husband and son!

Chris, Josefine, and baby Karel (in orange) join us for a great dinner out

The kids loved playing with Karel

We had a great time exploring picturesque Yu Yuan Gardens

Old meets new in rapidly explanding Shanghai

I'm glad you had a chance to get away for a while. I know you have been under a lot of stress lately.

Everyone looks great!

These are such great photos! While we're awash in snow and ice, it's nice to see green and blue sky.
Love,
Mom

It must be nice to have some time to relax with your family in such an interesting city after such a stressful time. What is that curse?"May you live in interesting times>"
